are in shadowbox frames that are nine inches square. The old wooden rulers I used to frame each piece are from my husband's father. We found them when we were cleaning out his garage when he died. The photographs for these are not so good as the 3D nature of these makes it hard to photograph. The first piece here explains what these are about.
Messenger James W.
Messenger Robert J.

ReplyDeleteThanks Jackie!
DeleteI love these so much especially the first John R. and James W. I notice in yours the actually look sort of happy and hopeful. Perhaps that is just my interpretation. Never the less. I love these guys.
ReplyDeleteThanks dear friend
DeleteThese are so wonderful! I wish I could see them in person!!
ReplyDeletethanks Christine- somehow I missed your comment.
DeleteI love how you turned these bad boys into messengers. Fun!
ReplyDeletethanks I just had to do something with them- their expression drew me right in.
DeleteWonderful work, Terry! I love the way your "messengers" deliver their messages looking directly at us without so much as the blink of an eye making it impossible to ignore their proffered wisdom! I love John R. #1's message (via Jack London) concerning inspiration. My sentiments exactly! Or as artist Chuck Close once said: "Those artists who wait around for inspiration to strike are likely going to end up with a fairly small body of work!".
ReplyDeleteThank you Robert! When I first saw those photos I knew I HAD to do something with them.
DeleteWow - these are great! The photos are so compelling, and turning them into messengers is brilliant! I like the shadow box effect, too, especially with the rulers.
ReplyDeletethankyou Sharmon. I have been loving your circle series.
DeleteHi from Aotearoa New Zealand. It is lovely to find your blog, after finding Brian Kasstle's. I look forward to sharing examples of your work with the guys at my work who experience mental distress and or illness/ addiction. We create recovery journals using Mixed media techniques.
ReplyDeleteBTW I happen to have a female partner so that makes you officially a gay American art journaling cousin!
Well hello Sue- thanks for commenting and glad to meet you! How nice.
DeleteWow, Terry, these are so striking and meaningful. Stories in this form, I love, as they are instead of being full of old dragged out reliving of the past, are actually using the past to be inspiring! What beautiful impact you make with your gorgeous art! Best wishes and huge hugs for your exhibition!xxx
ReplyDeleteWhen I see your art I marvel at the source of your imagination. These are absolutely spectacular!
ReplyDeleteThank you Irene- We delivered the work over to the gallery yesterday- they will install the show.
