December Craziness

December is not my favorite month. Holidays have a lot of triggers for me so I tend to make lots of things in the studio. I finished this little envelop book a while back. Instead of an accordion book I did a small signature and sewed it in with a simple pamphlet stitch. I love maps and so I was excited when I came across the big old National Geographic Atlas. I love this folded envelop designed by Heidi Kyle and how nicely 2 artist trading cards fit in the pockets in the back. The title for the little book is Seekers. So all the collages are travel related. The collages in the booklet are digital- I didn't have it in me to cut that many tiny elements. I am no "wiz" with digital collaging and I am not fast with that. Sometimes it just works better for some things. The Artist Trading Cards are analog though.

Yes another post can you believe it?

This is a slit and tab book structure-it is unique in the when you pull a strip out of the tab you can slide all the pages out. This one has interactive elements- pockets for tags. These are analog meaning I cut and glue the elements on the pages, There are more pages in the book but it would be too many for a post. As is often the case with me- I loved this structure so much that I made many of these. There is something so special to make work in a book structure. Here are some photos of one of the slit & tab books.

 This is the cover

It has been since April - I will try to start posting here again.

I get emails from time to time from some of you that want to see my work here. For what ever reason I just stopped posting here. I am reminded that many of you are not on instagram so you don't see my work.

I will say that I am in my studio most everyday. My studio is my lifeboat-my sanctuary.  Given the mess this country is in-  without my studio I would be in the abyss of despair. I facilitate a collage group here in Albuquerque- we meet up once a month and that is such a wonderful group of people. I manage 2 different Artist Trading Card groups and I am active in Libros- the book arts guild here.

I will start with A shipping tag book. I just love this structure.  The tag is 4 inches by eight inches and folded to create the cover. I sew in a signature of pages using a simple pamphlet stitch. Then I make the collages for it. They are the same size as artist trading cards- two and a half inches by three and a half inches. I create the collages and then glue them on the pages. So the photos below start with the front cover and end with the back cover.

I know it has been forever.

The last post was in November- I have been doing LOTS of art work- for what ever reason it is so easy for me on instagram but the blog seems daunting sometimes. I have had a few ask me to please start posting on my blog again. I would appreciate it if you would let me know if you are interested in me posting on my blog.

Well I guess I will post a shipping tag book I made this week about teen boy angst. For what ever reason I was thinking about my teen years and they pretty much were hell for me for many reasons. I know many had trouble with that part of their lives. The images in this book are from Emilee Stone of Collage Soup. I altered them for the graphic grunge look I wanted for this book. The quotes are from teen boys. The shipping tag cover is 4 inches by 8 inches- closed the book is 3 inches wide and 4 inches tall.
